Diversify AS Programming
AS Programming does not only want to be known as the "Sun God Office." Associated Students wants to provide for the diverse interests of the more than 22,000 undergrads here at UCSD, and build a student life that we, as Tritons, can be proud of.If this referendum does not pass, Sun God Festival 2009 will have to be severely scaled back or cancelled, and AS will not be able to fully deliver programs such as FallFest, TGIOs, Bear Gardens, comedy series, and lecture guests that it has promised to you, the students.
Save Student Organizations
In recent years, we have seen an incredible number of new student organizations and they've become much more active. Even with an AS Activity Fee that hasn’t changed in the past 10 years* and isn’t adjusted for inflation, we’ve been able to support the essentials to ensure our student organizations can operate. However, student organizations have expanded past what the AS can fund. This year, there is essentially no money left to fund events for Spring Quarter. If this referendum does not pass, student org events across the board will be severely under-funded and will not happen as a result! *The AS Activity Fee increased by $7 in 2007, but these funds were locked in for SPACES.
Help Make UCSD A Green Campus
The new Sustainability Resource Center (SRC) will lead the green movement on campus and provide resources for students, staff, and faculty to empower themselves to learn about change and make change happen. Having a central, visible, student-controlled place dedicated to sustainability is key to reviving the sustainability movement on campus. The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) - funds for sustainable projects accessible only to students - is key to furthering our goals of sustainability. UCSD can lead the nation towards sustainability by being a model for social and environmental justice.Prioritize Student Issues
Additional funding for the University of California Student Association (UCSA) and the AS External Office will increase our presence with politicians in Sacramento and the UC Regents.UCSA is the official voice of over 200,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students from the ten UC campuses. It is their mission to advocate on behalf of current and future students for the accessibility, affordability, and quality of the University of California system. UCSA has successfully fought large tuition increases in recent years!
